This story of the brewing business founded by my great-great-grandfather in 1749 tells how the firm of Wm. Younger & Co. Ltd., has grown, during two centuries, from a humble brewhouse into the large trading organisation of to-day.

During this lengthy period we have enjoyed the friendship and goodwill of countless people in most parts of the world and the loyal service of many generations of employees. It is in recognition of this bond between management, staff and customer, and in order to celebrate our bicentenary fittingly that this book has been prepared for presentation to our friends.

I would only add that we have given the author complete freedom. All our records were put at his disposal ; and to these he has added the fruits of his own historical research. We hope therefore that the result will be considered of value not only as a faithful record of our own past, but as a contribution to the social and industrial history of Scotland where our roots have been so long embedded.
