I had in mind Riverview Illinois, now part of Des Plaines. Now it was residential, except a strip of industries along the tracks. As I grew up a block north of the area, I began to look into the matter. Shortly after, I realized that no one had written about the railroad from the Wisconsin border south.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv style=\"text-align:left\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family:Calibri;font-size:1.13em;color:#000000;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;text-decoration:none;\"\u003eWhat I thought would be a simple story to tell turned into this book. I originally intended to end with the Milwaukee Road merger of 1985, but decided to only cover the Wisconsin Central to 1909. In order to do the topic justice, I decided to include the other factors at work at the time. Although my main focus was on the Chicago extension, I also traced the relevant history of the Wisconsin Central from inception to its lease to the Soo Line. No one had done an in depth look at the Northern Pacific influence, reorganization or factors leading to the Soo Line lease. There were times in the history of the\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv style=\"text-align:left\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family:Calibri;font-size:1.13em;color:#000000;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;text-decoration:none;\"\u003eline that events far removed from Illinois were determining its fate.
