This seventeenth edition of WHO'S WHO IN RAILROADING AND RAIL TRANSIT is published by Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corporation.
In producing WHO'S WHO, National Railway applied its propriety data base management and typesetting systems, therefore requiring keyboarding of all the information contained in the book. That amounted to over two million characters keyboarded, proofed, mailed to biographees, revised, and reproofed!
Our twin objectives from the start have been accuracy and completeness. The latter goal is difficult because of the hard-copy publisher's obvious problem-at best a directory is a picture of a subject at a given point in time. And in a dynamic industry like railroading there are many changes in management going on all the time with new people becoming qualified for inclusion in WHO'S WHO. At the same time there are people who prefer not to be included in the publication, and we obviously have to observe their preferences. Within that framework we have made every effort to make this edition of WHO'S WHO as complete as possible.
