The Potomac Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society is proud to present all the magnificence of the final years of steam on the Western Maryland Railway. The years right after World War II were perhaps the finest season for steam on the WM. A new fast freight image, highlighted by the red and gold "fireball" logo, added a bright dash to an immaculate stable of motive power. This volume covers the WM from Hagerstown west towards Connellsville, Pennsylvania on the main line. We also take a look at the important Elkins, West Virginia line, where coal trains powered by as many as ten locomotives stormed up the Black Fork Grade.
