PREFACE
Welcome to Washington! Whether you are a rail-photo bug, a steam fan, a "juice" fan, or just a plain old train watcher, the District of Columbia has something for you. We have the Smithsonian Institution with a Southern 4-6-2 on display, the three types of motive power in operation, and even a little narrow gauge tossed in on the side.
It must be noted that all the information contained herein is, of course, subject to change with the policies of the various companies and railroads in the area. The author can only be responsible for the accuracy of the information at this writing.
Please remember that railroads and companies having rail operations at their plants are private property. ALWAYS obtain permission before entering a railyard or plant grounds. Trespassing is both illegal and dangerous!
Finally, please remember that trains and locomotives weigh in the range of several tons and have a nasty habit of needing quite a distance to slow down and stop. The average Railfan weighs in at about 150 pounds and is usually preoccupied with train watching. so please be careful. Enjoy your visit safely so you may return and see us again.
