SIDE ONE
Recordings of `Dukedog' (9000 Class) 4-4-0s, made in August 1956, on the Cambrian section of the Western Region between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth.
At Machynlleth No. 9013 moves off the turntable and 9005 comes in to the station with a train from Welshpool.
On board an evening Aberystwyth-Machynlleth train of five coaches, headed by No. 9013. The start from Bow Street Station is on a rising gradient of I in 75, and the line climbs on this gradient for nearly one mile, then eases to I in 94, I in 219 and finally I in 197 into Llandre station, 1'-, miles from Bow Street.
SIDE TWO
In May 1957 the veteran 4-4-0 No. 3440 City of Truro worked as pilot to 4300 class 2-6-0 No. 4358 on the 'Daffodil Express', a special train organised by Ian Allan Limited.
Crowds of onlookers have gathered near Crumlin High Level Station as the 'Daffodil Express' halts at the eastern end of the viaduct. City of Truro comes off the train and runs light across the viaduct and on through the station. The train having been brought into the station by No. 4358, City of Truro then backs down towards it to resume pilot duty on the next stage of the journey.
