BRANFORD TROLLEY MUSEUM SOUVENIR RECORD
Souvenir record of the Branford Trolley Museum, East Haven, Connecticut, offered as a tribute to America's turn-of-the-century sweetheart- the Trolley Car
The street railway made possible the development and growth of our cities and suburbs for almost a century, by providing convenient and inexpensive local transportation. Horizons of millions of people were widened through the increased mobility provided for them by "harnessed lightning bolts."
On the wane since the late 1920's, the trolley car was threatened with extinction at the close of World War II. It was then that the Branford Electric Railway Association was founded, to preserve this colorful segment of American transportation history. Its roster of cars has passed the half-hundred mark, embracing every significant type of street-railway car from horse cars to million dollar streamliners.
The museum's membership is a group of men and women from all walks of life, laboring for no compensation except the satisfaction of a job well done, and the knowledge that the history of the trolley car will be passed on to future generations.
At the museum, located near The Green at East Haven, Conn. (close to Connecticut Turnpike, exit 51), the trolleys which made possible the Electric Railway Era can be seen, photographed, and ridden.
Your ride `down memory lane' on the yellow-and-red open car #1414, formerly of the Connecticut Company, takes you through varied and picturesque scenery. At Branford, you are a witness to the reincarnation of a colorful portion of the past. The trolley-America's faithful servant-lives on.
