This is not just another Denver & Rio Grande Western video! This one is truly unique. First of all, this one was shot in the early 50's when the D&RGW still had a working narrow gauge railroad.
Second, this is not another Antonito to Chama or Durango to Silverton video. Although there are some shots in these areas, most of this video was shot around Gunnison, Alamosa, the Farmington branch, the Monarch branch and between Durango and Chama. The opening segment includes fantastic scenes of C-I6 #268 switching in Gunnison, taking a train to load some sheep and the return trip. A Toltec Gorge scene not to be missed on this video is looking across the gorge toward Rock tunnel and the train.
Third it was shot with high quality 16mm color film. Most of the scenes are so clear and sharp, you would think it was shot recently with the latest video equipment. Green Frog had this film transferred on state of the art equipment and the audio digitally mastered to bring you the highest quality video possible.

#4- Rio Grande Narrow Gauge Steam Spectacular in the Rockies
The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad operated an extensive network of three foot narrow gauge lines through the Rockies in the states of Colorado and New Mexico. Most of this extensive network has been abandoned. One of the two surviving sections is the 64 mile line between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado. This video covers a Railfan freight special run in October of 1993. Relive the excitement of STEAM as three narrow gauge Mikados recreate an authentic 25 car plus freight of the fifties. #5- The Battle to Cumbres Pass
The winter of 1993 was the heaviest snowfall in 15 years for the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. Two weeks before opening day, drifts 20 feet deep blocked the tracks. Rotary OY was called to clear the line from Chama, N.M. to Antonito, Colo.
It would require three engines to push the rotary uphill
through the dense snow and ice. The use of a triple
header with the 1923 Leslie Rotary OY has not been seen
on this line since 1963. After 4 long, exhausting days, the
line had been cleared only as far as Osier.
"The Battle to Cumbres Pass", is truly a battle of men and
machine against the snowpack.
