UP The Streamliner Volume 35 #2 Union Pacific Historical Society
The Streamliner is published quarterly. On the Cover: In early 1902, Greeley Barber made this action view of Union Pacific 1842 on a westbound passenger train near Rawlins, Wyoming, that he exhibited at the Ferris Studio in Rawlins. Action views were rare in the early twentieth century, and the photograph attracted much attention, including an article in the local newspaper the Rawlins Republican on February 26, 1902. The image may have been noticed by Fred Jukes, who also began making railroad action views soon after. In 1903, the two photographers entered into a partnership, operating the Barber and Jukes Studio in Rawlins until 1912. Note that the engine crew walked out on the running board as they passed the photographer. -Greeley Barber photo, James L. Ehernberger collection
