Unofficial and Slightly Irreverent Railfans Guide to the Bay Area By Frank Jur
The Unofficial and Slightly Irreverent Railfans Guide to the Bay Area By Frank Jur

72 pages
My first trip to San Francisco was in 1965, and was a college graduation gift from my mother. I was living in Chicago then, and in the intervening years I came back here many times. But instead of bus trips to the Redwoods or bar hopping on Union St., I would strap 20 pounds of camera gear to my body and chase the Muni, the SP or the Belt.
Unlike Chicago, however, there was no railfan guide. So when I moved to California, I resolved to rectify that situation. Girthing my loins in the cloak of ignorance and arming myself with the spirit of foolhardiness, I plunged ahead.
This book is a collection of reasonably reliable information and some personal opinion about locations and activities in the Bay Area of interest to rail-fans and tourists who would be railfans. It is hoped that you will find it useful, informative, and most of all -- fun.
Best ways to spot and ride the trains.
Railfan stops, Amtrak, Alameda Belt Line,Muni, tourist lines, miniature railways, more.
