The following list is intended as n basic guide to U.S.interurbans, although some companies listed may actually be defined as rural or suburban street railways. If they seemed to use interurban equipment, or became interurbans, they are listed. Some trolley lines that were omitted may be more"interurban"than some listed, such is the difficulty in defining types of intercity lines. Each entry has five items:
(1) Item number(1-1246)for the whole list.
(2) Name of company, with abbreviations to save space(RR.,Ry.,Elec., ?t.Rv. Corp.)-and the word"company"is frequently omitted to save space;
3 Date of incorporation, as well as is known(month/day/year);
(4 Date of firt service-if from an earlier company, latters item number given; if from city lines, this described as "local";
(5) Date of final service, with "P" for passenger runs ,F for freight (indicating electric if diesel power retained).No marking means the whole line quit at once. Companies which became something else (the majority of cases!) indicated by M(merged),R(reorganized)or S(sold)--L indicated lease (when applicable).These symbols are followed by the successor companies' item numbers.
All pictures are of the actual item. There may be reflection from the lights in some photos. We try to take photos of any damage.
