Model Railroading, like railroading, is constantly faced with the never ending problems of how to obtain smooth and safe operation. With this thought in mind, this manual will endeavor to assist the Model Railroader to simplify the control problem on his Two-Rail "pike" and thereby increase his enjoyment and relaxation in this facinating sport.
Since our model is powered with electrical current, we are able to perform "near miracles" with a few wires and gadgets. We not only increase the margin of efficiency on our railroad, but also obtain many realistic effects by the mere pushing of buttons.
Therefore, in the following pages, we will show how simple and complex problems can be solved by applying a few fundamental principles. To help visualize the various methods of procedure we will illustrate, wherever possible, with diagrams and sketches. Before taking up the details of circuits and sketches we would like to emphasize that this manual will help to improve the operation of a model railroad but it cannot take the place of thoughtful planning and careful workmanship.
