Cover, FRONT COVER ABOVE: On August 5, 1992, Green Bay & Western train #2 crosses western Wisconsin with a solid set of bright red ALCO Century 424's. Kodachrome by David Baer.

FRONT COVER BELOW: Delaware & Hudson train NE-87 is entering Allentown Yard in December 1976, as seen from A-Tower. After the entire train is in the yard, the big GE's will eventually cut off and run to the other end of the train. Later in the day, U30C #702 will be leading the train back past this same spot to head down to their connection with the Baltimore & Ohio at Philly, via the Reading line. They could not pick-up or drop cars here, per the Conrail merger agreement, one of many rules that hurt the D&H. Kodachrome by Dave Augsburger.
