FOREWORD
In the heart of the beautiful, historic Finger Lakes Region of Central New York lies the city of Geneva. The site of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, this picturesque city of 17,000 lies at the northern end of Seneca Lake, whose depth in places approaches 600 feet, making it the deepest of the Finger Lakes. Six miles east is the village of Waterloo, which shares with Ovid the county seat of Seneca County. The Barge Canal has eradicated the falls at Seneca Falls, east of Waterloo, and the site of the first Women's Rights Convention in 1848. The northern end of Cayuga Lake is two miles east of Seneca Falls.
Research concerning the trolley line which connected Geneva with Waterloo, Seneca Falls and the Park on the west shore of Cayuga Lake east of Seneca Falls commenced in 1951, and has continued sporadically during the subsequent 26 years. What is presented herewith is by no means complete. The records of the line long ago vanished. Yellowing newspaper clippings tell some; but, not nearly enough.
