The companies fall generally into two categories - those which were actual operating properties and those which were \u0026amp;may corporations controlled by one of the operators. Again, as was the normal pattern, the various operators came to be consolidated into large regional groupings. In Delaware County, there were four such groupings. However, the pattern differs from normal in that one of the four, because of its location, corporate affiliations and financial problems was under control of one of the other combines during most of its existence. It was originally an outgrowth of the local system in Chester, the Chester Traction Co., and included one other initially independent operator, the Delaware County and Philadelphia. During most of its existence it was part of a corporate structure which included the street railways of Wilmington, Delaware. This book will discuss the Delaware County portions of this operation in the first section. Co. in 1906 and promptly leased to the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Co. which operated the system as a virtually separate entity until the discontinuance of street car service. The lines were centered at Folsom and ran from that point to Derby, Media and Chester. In addition a line ran from Derby to Yeadon and from Media to Chester. These lines are discussed in detail in the third section of this book. The lines radiated from the 69th St. Elevated Terminal in Upper Derby. Trolley lines originally ran to West Chester, Ardmore, and Media. In addition, the third rail line from 69th St. to Norristown has been in this family during the greater part of its existence. Except for the P R T lines into Derby, the Media, Sharon Hill and Norristown lines are the last electric lines in the county.
