ON THE INSIDE COVER:
The lament for old Chicago, that wonderful, vibrant lost city, daily grows louder. With these rare photographs, reproduced in the form of actual postcards which can be detached and mailed, it is possible either to show others what that city was like or to keep them as a personal memento of old Chicago.
Among the famous Windy City buildings, places, and events shown here are the 1893 Columbian Exposition, the Water Tower just after the great fire, State Street in the 1880s, the Grand Dining Room of the old Palmer House, the South Shore Country Club, the Paradise Theatre, Louis Sullivan's Stock Exchange, and Jane Addams' Hull House.
The editor wishes to thank the Chicago Historical Society, the University of Chicago Library, Miriam Blazowski, Annette Fern, Albert M. Tannler, and Julia Westerberg for their help in putting this collection together.
