The Mainstreeter is published quarterly. On the Cover, Front cover: Milwaukee Road machinist-helper Wade Stevenson is taking a flyer from his home in Othello, Washington, in 1953 to capture the 3:40 p.m. arrival of No. 1, the westbound Mainstreeter, at Missoula. The baggage carts piled high with mail bags testifies to the volume of headend traffic carried by the secondary transcon. Ten-wheeler 1387 moves through with a branch line local. The steel coaling tower has recently replaced the wooden one and a new water tank is under construction. Dieselization is proceeding slowly and steam operation is anticipated at least through 1960.Wade J. Stevenson
