The Mainstreeter Northern Pacific Ry Historical Society Vol 31 #3 2012 Fall
The Mainstreeter is published quarterly. On the Cover, Cover: Merger Day is still a year away on this spring afternoon in 1969 as NP train No. 408 eases to a timetable-instructed passenger stop at Vancouver, Wash. The fireman will snag a clearance and a fistful of slow orders from the SP&S operator as the NP's railroad east now becomes SP&S railroad west for No. 408. Vancouver was a heavy train order job with a multitude of dispatchers barking multitasking instructions to the train order operator 24 hours a day. Gary Emmons photo
