An illustrated history of the romantic narrow gauge lines running west from Boulder Colorado: Greeley Salt Lake & Pacific and the Colorado & Northwestern, later the Denver Boulder & Western.
The Switzerland Trail of America! The flowing beauty of the name fascinated me when first I heard it long ago. When I saw the abandoned grade curving along a mountainside, my imagination conjured up pictures of ghost trains so real I could almost hear the whistles. The stories of old railroaders and people who rode the trains brought to me the excitement and color of the little lines running west from Boulder into the Rockies. Even as I read old books and papers, the dry bones of history came alive. All those things pushed me, unconsciously, toward the day when I began this book.
Now telling the story of even a little railroad like the Switzerland Trail of America is a big undertaking. I could never have completed it had there not been the help of many wonderful, unselfish people. They put their hearts into it. Whatever I have put down I owe largely to them.
