I approach the writing of an introduction to this brochure with a considerable feeling of sadness since I know the affection everybody in South Wales has for the Mumbles Railway.
But progress does not thrive on sentiment alone.
It was to keep step with progress that the changes from horse power to steam and then to electricity were made. Now the electric train is to give place to a more flexible and economic form of transport-the diesel bus.
I am confident that the substitution of the bus for the train will be an important step in the improvement of transport in Swansea; indeed, it is planned to give the public even better facilities than they have had in the past.
The Directors of the South Wales Transport Company trust that this brochure will be an interesting souvenir of a long and happy association between the people of Swansea and the Mumbles Railway.
