A chance visit to a friend's home in a former railroad section house, once owned by the Denver \u0026amp; New Orleans Railroad, led to my writing a book about that abandoned railroad (published by Sundance Publications in 1997). I marveled at the unpublished material that came my way. The loving, laid-back people I befriended as a result of my research had fascinating stories to tell. Some became extended family. I was hooked on the prairie lifestyle.
