Two of the outstanding recorders of steam, George Heiron and Eric Treacy, have combined their brilliant artistic and technical gifts to pay this tribute to the last years of steam on British Railways. Their photographs recapture memories of a Coronation Pacific storming up Shap, of a Castle proudly heading 'The Red Dragon' and of A4 Pacifics simmering contentedly at Kings Cross. There are photographs of shed scenes and freight trains, nor is the country railway forgotten. This unique blending of talents conveys more graphically than words ever could what it was like to travel on the railways in the 1950s and early 1960s.
