The following article was delivered by Philip D. Borden at a meeting of the Fall River Historical Society, November 18, 1925. It is a fairly detailed account of the development of steam navigation on Narragansett Bay, and it contains much information not found elsewhere.
The article first appeared in print in the Fall River Herald, Thursday, November 19, 1925, and it subsequently was published in the "Proceedings of The Fall River Historical Society, 1921-1926." The Fall River Historical Society has given the Steamship Historical Society of America permission to issue it in booklet form.
This is Publication number 7 of a continuing series by the Steamship Historical Society of America.
