Because of the number of locomotive listings, it was necessary to divide The Steam Locomotive Directory Of North America into two volumes. Material has been divided between the two volumes so as to minimize duplication while making each volume as useful as possible.
Volume One contains listings of U.S. locomotives east of the Mississippi River and all of Canada. Volume Two contains listings of U.S. locomotives west of the Mississippi River and all of Mexico. Both volumes contain a complete table of contents.
In addition, Volume One contains all introductory material including the Preface, Foreword, the Whyte System of Locomotive Classification , and information on How to Use These Books. Volume Two contains sections on Replicas, Recently Scrapped Locomotives and Unknown Locomotives. Volume Two also includes the three indices which provide a guide to locating locomotives by wheel arrangement, builder or major owner.
It is recommended that the two volumes be used together for maximum benefit, although each is small enough for convenient use.
All pictures are of the actual item. There may be reflection from the lights in some photos. We try to take photos of any damage.
