INTRODUCTION
A NEW ERA BEGAN for Southern Pacific in the summer of 1958 when the complex "Black Widow" diesel livery was replaced by the simpler and less-expensive-to-apply scarlet and Lark gray.
Coinciding within a few months of the image change was the end of the "first generation" of dieseldom, even though that particular phrase had not yet been coined. The first diesels to be delivered in the new livery were also the SP's first low-nose hood units.
This book picks up the story of SP's diesel power where Morning Sun Books' Southern Pacific In Color, Volume 2, Black Daylights - Black Wido
