The Southern Pacific is but a memory now, just another segment of the vast Union Pacific empire. Its distinctive roster of equipment was photographed for posterity by SP company photographers, however. Used in marketing, industrial development, public relations and other corporate departments, the color images illustrated SP equipment when brand new, exhibiting new paint shemes and demonstrating the usage customers could obtain with these cars. This first volume of the Southern Pacific Color Guide, while not comprehensive, gives the reader a rare glimpse of a proud roster.
