On the cover, Speeding the handling of StacPac containers loaded with new Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles at Oakland is an Auto-Packer with a rotary head. SP worked with the manufacturer on the development of this unit, first of its kind in the industry. The Stac-Pacs are loaded end-to-end on flatcars and placed side-by-side on the ground for efficient removal of the autos with an extractor (right.) The new Auto-Packer not only handles this job faster, but makes it possible to operate at points where space is limited. So far, we've handled about 12,000 '72 and '73 model Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles in Stac-Pac containers and about 2,500 of the '74 models.
