It never really earned much money and suffered years of failure. Oddly enough, it was not even built like most such lines, being promoted as an electric feeder railroad for a longer steam railroad which never reached its destination(This was the Outer Belt Line). The history of the Gary \u0026amp; Southern thus is one of early hopes, and constant frustration leading to final failure.
