The author, a southerner by birth and inclination, not only lived he era of Slow Trains Down South, but traveled and photographed them extensively. The Virginia native majored in architecture at VPI and holds a degree from the University of Miami. Mal worked as a magazine photographer for the Black Star Agency and LIFE before turning to a flying career. He was a combat jet fighter pilot and thirty-year captain for Western and Delta Airlines. This book, the first of a two volume set, has been in development for many years and is the author's sixteenth major work. Mal lives with his wife Gloria in Peachtree City, Georgia, where he continues to enjoy flying, writing and researching future book projects.
