Two companies were the main operators of the railways in Shropshire, the GWR and LNWR, whose railways are represented by the photographs in this volume. The famous, now preserved, Severn
Valley Railway has a section to itself showing how it was before Dr Beeching closed it, what has happened before it was preserved, and illustrating its present renown. We have also tried to recall the 'wars' which brought about the development of the network within the county, and sample allocations of locosheds which provided engines to operate trains in Shropshire and beyond. Other data, such as closure dates of stations, along with timetables, are also included.
