THIS is a book for boys and girls about ten years of age. It is written by two persons who know ships and how to tell children about them.

The Ship Book opens with a description of the liners, tramp ships, square-riggers, and schooners likely to be seen in any of our harbors, and it contains chapters about sailboats, motor boats, the rules of the road at sea, lighthouses, and lightships.

Then there are stories about the Venetians and other early traders, about famous voyages - those of Columbus, Magellan, and Drake - and about ships that all Americans should know - the Half Moon, the Mayflower, the Constitution, the whalers, the clippers, the Clermont, the Savannah, and others.

And finally the authors have given directions for making simple block prints of ships, and building miniature ships to sail on ponds and streams, with a list of interesting books for further reading.
