SCL News Seaboard Coast Line RR Employee Magazine 1968 Mar-April V2#2
SCL News is published 6 times a year. Cover story, Look from a vantage point across any train yard and you will see cars belonging to railroads and private owners from all over the nation. Seaboard Coast Line has about 63,000 freight cars, including 24 different types, in transportation service for shippers in every type of industry.
A big part of the railroad's operations concerns the operating and maintenance of, and accurate record keeping for, every car on the system. Modern shipper service demands that the railroad be able to furnish up-to-the-minute information on cars handling shipments anywhere on line, and to some extent data covering the movements of shipments off-line.
For more of the amazing story on SCL's modern methods of tracing car movements see the story about its Central Tracing Bureau in this issue.
