Scale Rails NMRA 2007 August Stephen Priest’s Augusta Refinery
Scale Rails NMRA 2007 August Stephen Priests Augusta Refinery
Scale Rails NMRA is published monthly. On the cover, A rare GE U3OCG (only six were ever built) and an SD39u bring their piggyback train through the sleepy Kansas town of Augusta. Nestled in the oil fields of Kansas and Oklahoma, Augusta boasts a large Texaco refinery and the Santa Fe did considerable petrochemical business in the area. This scene was photographed on the editor's HO scale Emporia Subdivision. The process of building the refinery is covered in this issue.
