On the Cover...
There's no better beginning to our series on internal combustion motive power than a visit from the author of the best-selling book The Doodlebugs, the "Grasshopper" himself, Dr. John McCall. Dr. McCall first takes us on a modeling journey starting with Santa Fe's gaselectrics and ends up with a modeling essay on the latest (almost) additions to Santa Fe's diesel fleet-the GP-60Ms. In future issues, noted diesel modelers will cover the subjects in between. In the top photo, M.160 strikes a pose for the photographer as she would have appeared after her second conversion to diesel in 1952. In the lower photograph, "Hammerhead" 126 has just left the paint shop ready for a shakedown trip.
