Santa Fe Modeler is published bi-monthly with a 7th issue published at the end of the year. Cover Photo; Forty years old and still going strong in the summer of 1946, 1657 has brought the Oro Grande turn over Cajon and is headed east between Frost and Thorn on the First District of the Los Angeles Division. Mid-day heat shimmers on the high desert and it's 110in the cab as the ponderous 2-10-2 loafs along with a light train and a clean stack. Even at 35 m.p.h., the maximum speed these low-drivered dinosaurs are allowed by the Employees' Timetable, it will not be long until Extra 1657 East rolls into Victorville. The model is a Hallmark import that has been rebuilt with a flywheel, a NWSL 43:1 gearbox, added weight, power pickup shoes, and additional details. The model by Richard Hendrickson follows the prototype closely as per prototype photos by Stan Kistler.
