Santa Fe Employee Magazine 1974 April Claims-Litigation Meeting
Santa Fe Employee Magazine is issued in the middle of the month to active and retired employes of  the Santa Fe. Our Cover: A milestone in grain transportation came recently at Hutchinson, [(an., when Santa Fe Railway loaded the billionth bushel of grain it has handled since the heavy export movement began 20 months ago. On hand for the occasion were (from left) George Voth, executive vice president and general manager of FAR-MAR-CO, at whose elevator the loading took place; Kansas Wheat Queen Andrea Polansky, and John S. Reed, chairman and chief executive officer of the Railway. Reed labeled the grain movement as ". . . one of the great transportation jobs of all time, requiring maximum cooperation of shippers, elevator operators and the railroads-a task that was accomplished despite overtaxed port facilities with cars waiting for days to be unloaded, and a lack of notice that would have allowed railroads to make advance preparations." Since July of 1972, when the historically-heavy movement began, Santa Fe alone has handled over 850,000 carloads of grain.
