Every mile of this railroad is also shown on the USGS Topo Maps, slightly reduced to save space in some cases. In many cases I have put numbers in circles (and letters of the alphabet) which means some place on that page, or nearby, there is further information on the topic in question. This book does require some initiative on your part to look everything over closely as there are many notations on the topo maps, as well as the diagrams. No doubt I goofed along the way, but it was quite easy to do trying to place most, if not all, points of interest on the various maps and diagrams. Trust the errors are at a minimum. This book is for those of you that might want to follow along the roadbed and see what is left of the points of interest or to visualize by looking at the topo map what kind of territory the Rutland operated in. The latter could be helpful in modelling also. I'm certain that after you have looked at the topo maps enough, you will be able to easily visualize the type of terrain that is present along any given point.
