FOREWORD
This small book is intended to supplement Rock Island Motive Power, 1933-1955, first published in 1980 and now out of print. There appears to be an increased interest in the Rock Island, which ceased operations about the time that Rock Island Motive Power appeared.
Some additional data on the 1947-1953 era has come to light, and with mostly new illustrations, it is hoped this effort will add something to the late steam era of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad.
Although the railroad has been gone for over a decade, those of us who are Rock Island "fans" still consider it to be very much a part of the present. To forget the Rock Island and its fine stable of steam locomotives is unthinkable.
