This book, the second in a series of all color volumes dealing with the locomotives and trains of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, is concerned with the period 1960-1969. Our first volume covered the end of steam and the early diesel years, ending in 1960. The third in this series will cover the final decade, the period from 1970 to the shutdown of the railroad in 1980.
In this volume, we will consider the locomotives on hand in 1960, and those added to the fleet during the decade. Those units already listed in the brief rosters attached to the appropriate chapters in Volume One will not be re-listed here, only those units coming on line during the decade, both new and secondhand, appear in roster tables.
