The Rio Grande Southern comes to life in this superlative photo-packed volume.
Divided into three sections chronologically arranged to follow the history of the railroad. From the beginning during the year of 1890 when Otto Mears took serious action and filed the papers of incorporation until 1951 at abandonment all major actions are recorded.
Sectioned into three twenty year periods, each with its own problems and triumphs, the photos capture the essence of that time. A book enhanced by narratives of railroaders or railroad enthusiasts who recorded their outstanding tour of the little line.
Most photos have not appeared in publication previously and some are enhanced by double printing on the duotone process. The depth achieved in these selected views are well worth perusal and collecting.
This railroad is fast fading away in physical features that are left to examine by buffs and modelers. However, any number of books interpreting the actions and history have been published to preserve the oral record and images of its life.
This particular book along with Volume I will give readers almost a thousand photos to peruse and contemplate the interesting era of steam railroading in a remote area.
