The Campbells and their friend and relatives are the kind of folk whose I lives left deep, rich traces on America Mrs. Harris knows and loves them and her novel evokes a warm nostalgia for the days when our century was new; j when major problems concerned Saturday night baths, sugar cookies, courting sofas, and the whistle of the year's first steamboat finally rounding that last bend.
