Remembering GK
The founding of the George Krambles Transit Scholarship Fund
shows that GK was far more than a transit operator. He was a man with a vision
and concern for the future of our transit systems and our cities. The Fund has
been a significant force in stimulating interest in urban transportation by our
students, and it is having a very positive impact on strengthening the links
between transit agencies and academic institutions. The gap between the two has
often prevented the academics from appreciating how intellectually interesting
the field of transit is, while many transit operators have had a negative
