INTRODUCTION:
Love of the READING RAILROAD since the age of 9 has led me in pursuit of historical accuracy. The desire to obtain a clear and concise history of Reading Company cabooses developed over time as research uncovered discrepancies and omissions of vital information. This book is not a work to dispel other theories, but an attempt to include as much information as possible in an effort to choreograph a clear historical diary of the development, construction and endurance of the Reading Company "standard" caboose, often referred to as the "Northeastern" caboose. This is by no means the complete word on Reading Company cabooses, but it is the most thorough compilation of data about Reading Company cabooses published to date. There are many areas that I feel need more coverage, but I have not yet been able to uncover the data to do so.
