An extensive study of one of America's little known rail lines that operated in northern Ohio between 1894 and 1925. Controlled by the Pennsylvania and Erie Railroads, the LA&S story provides a fascinating look at life in turn-of-the-century America.
From the corporate giants who financed its humble beginnings to the corrupt con men who contributed to its demise: from the foreign immigrants who helped build it and the railroad trainmen who operated it, and the thousands of men, women and children who rode its rails in slow moving coaches that had seen better days, the railroad was a part of the modernization and change that began in late 19th century America.
Mr. Snyder is a graduate of The Ohio State University, holding Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in history. He has taught high school social studies and served as a high school principal. He is a retired reference librarian at the Ashland Public Library and a historian who lectures on transportation history in Ohio.
