Railway Progress 1952 August
Contents:
EVERYBODY GETS INTO THE ACT; the idea originated about forty years ago on the N&W and now the C&O is making good use of it, too. What it amounts to is more interested employees and more business for the railroads. -- ACROSS KOREA GI's SHOUT: "PX Train's Coming" -- How would you PRICE THE PRODUCT? Under present passenger fare structures, your guess is about as good as anyone else's as to what a trip will cost you. And it all stems from the countless experiments to lure the traveler back to the rails. -- WANTED: MORE RESEARCH FOR THE FUTURE. -- GIRAFFES DON'T FOULD UP; It didn't take Liewellyn Lloyd, Erie Railroad agent at Clifton N.J., long to learn that. -- HEADACHE FOR STALIN -- TROUBLE ON THE EAST GERMAN RAILROADS -- At the end of the war, the Russians descended like locusts on the railroads of Eastern Germany. Now their puppets are paying the price in the tough task of trying to operate a rundown system while Moscow demands more and more output. The price of failure: a one way trip to Siberia in a boxcar. -- TRAIN X COACH ON THE RAILS -- SOME STEPS NEEDED FOR RAILWAY PROGRESS; Labor-management conferences, adopting Train X, attracting young men to the industry, owner-management -- all these should play their part, says Young. -- Employee Award - HE'S A BUSINESS BOOSTER - This Pennsy steward knows that courtesy and friendliness will keep them coming back for more.
