Railroad capital expenditures for 1964..will get under way on a level about 25% higher than those of 1962. Commerce Department figures put the prospective first-quarter outlays at $260 million, up from $210 million.
C&O's control of B&Ohas been cleared by the U.S. Supreme Court. It upheld the district court at Detroit which refused to upset the ICC decision. Unions were the losers; Justice Department withdrew.
1963 freight-car orders ...are now well past the 50,000 mark, with December reports still not in. One reason for the upsurge: new, higher per-diem rates scheduled to become effective Jan. 1.
