DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION
It is prominently stated in the author's introduction that this book contains no "Builders Broadsides" nor any of the usual posed and air brushed company publicity photos.
It is not until one turns to the epilogue at the end of the book that the author confesses . . . rather shame facedly . . . that this is not quite true but shows with pride a photograph of a replica of a 31 inch all-brass replica of the "Niagara" scaled for O-gauge track 17/64" to the foot WHICH HE BUILT HIMSELF.
A model builder and rail buff since early childhood, Walter A. Feibelman has put together here an amazing collection of photos, covering an area and time missing from other rail histories. Late steam, early diesel and electrics in the heart of the rail system, the Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie, the Balitmore and Ohio and many smaller lines in heretofore unpublished photos of action.
They are real photos right down to the grime, smoke and inclement weather of the working environment of this hub area. All taken by the author, they show what railroading is all about.
This factual and detailed rail history tells with photo and text how it really is and was.
