A pair of nicely kept Frisco SD45's slowly bake in the 102 drgree weather at Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 25,1980. Roger Bee took this photo of these soon to be green SD's.
Frisco's [now BN's] new EMD GP50 locomotives have started to arrive. SLSF ordered ten units which were to be numbered #790-799. However, with the merger now in effect, the units have been renumbered into the BN system starting with #3001, which was observed in St. Louis' Lindenwood Yard in late December. The units were decorated in pure Frisco orange and white, the only difference being the four digit number in orange rather than the three digit number.
Frisco's existing fleet is also being renumbered into the BN system beginning with the yard switchers and the six-axle road units. The fourty-seven Frisco SD45's are being renumbered into the BN's 6650-series, right after the BN F45 6600 to 6645-series. This renumbering is being done rather hasitly with a black "BN" and four digit number being applied to the cab side over the Frisco number. As of late December, no renumbered four-axle road units had been seen.
The Frisco will certainly be missed by its fans. Information by Kenneth Wulpert.
