Railroads of North America with Supplement By Joseph Gross A complete list of all North American Railroads 1827-1977 Book- Pages are not numbered, approx. 1 thick copyright 1977. The main portion of this book details, for each railroad, the name of the railroad, the reporting marks, the date incorporated, the roads mileage, the date the railroad was absorbed, abandoned, etc., and the name of the successor road. All mileage figures and dates are approximate.
A second section of this book is sorted by reporting marks for quick identification of railroad initials.
The logging railroads listed carried either freight, passengers or mail. Private logging railroads which carried neither freight, passengers or mail are not listed.
All information shown was obtained from Poor's and Moody's Manuals.
Over the years Pittsburg had two spellings (Pittsburg and Pittsburgh). For purposes of consistency, and to make sorting easier, all references to Pittsburg in all states, are spelled one way Pittsburg.
