Railroad What it is What it Does Introduction to Railroading By John Armstrong
The Railroad What it is What it Does Introduction to Railroading By John Armstrong Soft Cover Copyright 1977, 1978 Second printing 240 Pages Indexed Cover is a dark green with gold lettering (it did not photograph well)
As implied by its present-tense title, The Railroad: What It Is, What It Does is intended to present a basic but thorough overview of the railroad industry in North America as it currently exists and functions, with its primary perspective a description of railroad operations and their supporting technology interpreting the specialized terminology involved.
In the twenty years since publication of the first edition, and increasingly in the eight years since the third edition, organizational, and legislative matters have combined with technological factors - many the fruits of research - and a generally improving national economy to produce an advance in railroad traffic levels, efficiency and profitability of almost renaissance proportions.
